Stephen Harper

Stephen Harper was born in Toronto on April 30, 1959  and moved to Alberta in 1978 to work in the petroleum industry. He earned a Master's degree in economics at the University of Calgary.
He was first elected to the House of Commons in 1993. In 2002, he became the official leader of the opposition after winning the leadership of the Canadian Alliance and a by-election in Calgary Southwest.
He co-founded the Conservative Party of Canada in 2003 and won the leadership.
He is married to Laureen (Teskey) Harper and they have two children together, Benjamin and Rachel. They have a permanent home in Calgary.

 

Stephane Dion

Stéphane Dion was  born  on Sept. 28, 1955 in Quebec City. He has a Master's degree in politics from Université Laval.
Before entering politics, he taught public administration and political science at the Université de Montréal and authored numerous books and scientific articles. Dion was elected as the 11th leader of the Liberals on Dec. 2, 2006.
He is married to Janine Krieber and has one daughter, Jeanne. He has a permanent residence in Quebec.

 

Jack Layton

Jack Layton was born on July 18, 1950 in Montreal. He was educated at McGill University and was awarded a Ph.D. in political science from York University with a specialty in economic public policy.
Layton was elected as the NDP leader in 2003 and then elected to the House of Commons to represent the riding of Toronto-Danforth in 2004.
He is married to Olivia Chow (an NDP MP) and they have two children together.

 

Elizabeth May

Elizabeth May


Elizabeth May was born on June 9, 1954 in Connecticut. A graduate of Dalhousie Law School, she has been called to the Bar in Nova Scotia and Ontario.
May became the ninth leader of the Green Party after being elected at a national convention in August of 2006.
She is the mother of Victoria Cate. They live in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.
